Glimpse from the Garden

(40 seconds from 5.00/HD video with original film inset/sound includes original soundtrack and ‘British Bird Songs and Calls’ 2014)

In 1957 Marie Menken (1910 – 1971) made a five-minute, 16mm film in her friend, Dwight Ripley’s, garden. The final film is named Glimpse from the Garden.

I examined each shot, noting down its length, the camera movement, the estimated F-stop and colour palette. I used this information to remake Glimpse from the Garden; attempting to copy the structure and edit and trying to find similar landscapes and plantlife found in Menken’s film.

Film was shot at Kew Gardens.
