Workington Red

This project emerged from my discovery that the cliffs at Workington, which appeared natural, were in fact entirely man-made – built by generations of heavy industry, on the movement of iron, coal and steel from beneath the west cumbrian ground. The film includes interviews with local people, poetry by Norman Nicholson and Kate Davis, and a specially recorded song from Flimby Male Voice Choir.

Made as part of the Self Seeder residency at Florence Arts Centre and funded by Arts Council England.
